Our Story

Cat Carothers founded the Selby House after working many years as an Interior Designer. With over 10 years of experience in the industry, she has the unique ability to transform spaces by blending modern designs with traditional and historical pieces.  Cat received her BA in Art History from the University of Kansas and continued her passion for the arts in New York City where she received her MFA from the New York School of Interior Design.

After moving from New York City to Dallas in 2020, she felt something was missing; the rich history and creative spirit that fills the streets of the city. This left her contemplating her next career move as a creative. She took some time to think about what motivates and inspires her, and kept coming back to her love for 20th century design. Cat began collecting unique vintage pieces from home and quickly grew into a studio space located in the heart of the Dallas Design District.

Behind the Name

The name Selby pays homage to my Great Great Great Grandfather, George D. Selby, and the shoe company he founded in Portsmouth, Ohio in 1880. The Selby Shoe Company was the world’s largest women's shoe factory thereby making it accessible to all. “He left an indelible mark in this world, a shining mark for the younger generation to look up to for inspiration.”
